Blackthorne's Light

Blackthorne’s Light is a short, fun, magical, romantic and erotic read that both satisfied and tantalized this here paranormal romance fans craving for a quick fix. A definite must read for all fans of the genre looking for something different and sexy :)
Dara is unique in a very magical way. She is smart, beautiful and talented and is currently working on a written piece named “Bad Girls”. Her research brings her to a club that (unknowingly) holds her future. The question is… Will she accept it?
Trey was born different and has developed even more differences (and powers) with age. He’s an extraordinarily handsome, successful vampire that has many longings, the main one being peace. When one particular female walks into his club and lightens his soul as well as sparks his insides, he’ll stop at nothing to have her and the feelings she brings forth without even a slight effort on her part.
Together Trey and Dara are a perfect balance, the ying to the others yang. A perfect pair that I was (and still am) happy to see together and would LOVE to see more of!

Didn't like it

At 57 pages, a lot of plot and action is not really expected, but I did expect the story to make more sense and to have more excitement, to be more interesting. This has to be the most boring vampire romance I've ever read. It wasn't until the 50% mark/p. 29 that the vamp meets his heroine and gets it on with her. Until that point, I got to see him have sex with two other women and see the heroine go on about her excrutiatingly boring, good-girl life and this article she's going to write. And as for the sex with one of those other women, the H does her from behind in the behind and uses her blood as lube.
Now, maybe I'm wrong, but that's how the scene read. Just not a turn on for me, blood as lube. Imagining bright blood all over his little vampire grossed me out. After that, it was really hard to even like, much less pant after, the hero.
As for the hero and his darkness, you get the idea from the blurb just what he's up to. He has a higher calling from 'someone,' some power that allows the H to see the evil/darkness in others. He then consumes this darkness by draining it and the immoral person's life blood. Sounds interesting, but it proved to be otherwise. And who/what the heroine turns out to be to him seemed an easy given. Really, the story just didn't seem that tight or cohesive, and it moved almost sluggishly, wasting half the book NOT on my h/H together.
I usually like Marie Harte, but for me, this was not her best outing. There should have been more time with h/H together; both lead characters come across as boring and without any real dimension or life to them; and the ending was too rushed, too tidy, and just too suddenly sweet HEA. There was potential here to have a darkly romantic short story, but overall, it was the romance that was lacking most of all.

Fantastic read

There is nothing better than reading a new take on an old tradition. Take some of the old and blend it with a new fresh outlook and you get Blackthorne's Light Dara turned out to be Trey's light to his dark. He needed her if he wanted to keep the darkness from taking over. Dara was not so sure but then again, the story is in the convincing. Blackthorne's Light is another amazing story from the pen of Marie Harte. Reading Blackthorne's Light is like eating an ice cream cone with a new unique flavor.
