Great textbook for biochem

I am not someone who usually likes textbooks, they are usually a mean to an end, but this one is written in such a way to allow the student to grasp and actually LEARN the concepts. I credit this book with helping me get such a good grade in my biochem class, and would suggest it to anyone, even if this textbook is not the one chosen by the professor.

Black and white print

Same comments as for Circuit Analysis I, 2009 edition:
I was surprised on receiving book to find that text was black and white, not color as in preview; I thought part of increased cost versus 1st edition was color printing.
Also there are no transistor circuits, just resistors, capacitors, inductors and opamps so book has limited application to real engineering design and analysis - having said that most circuit analysis texts have same problem.

Very Advanced, MUST get both volumes...

Circuit analysis IS filled with differential equations, LaPlace and Fourier transforms, linear algebra, z-transforms and matrix calculus. The math is very advanced and challenging. Many analysis books, however, are intentionally dumbed down to make room for those of us less gifted in very advanced math-- circuit techs who aren't necessarily graduate engineers.

This is NOT one of those! You can't just use PSpice or your HP 50g-- Matlab means you're going to be deriving and using advanced equations. Even volume 1 of this series is not easy, but does lay a great foundation.

This is NOT a good book as a "second" more advanced CA text if you used one of the more tech oriented (very little calculus) books as your first step. Actually, I'd recommend the first volume-- Circuit Analysis I with MATLAB Applications as your second volume, and THIS as your third if you started with a much easier and intuitive (non calculus) first step, such as Introductory Circuit Analysis (12th Edition).

That said, if you are an engineer and a math wiz, WITH linear algebra behind you, go for it! Very few books are as up to date as this one, and Matlab makes it all that much more real world.

I'm a circuit review assistant at payroy dot com and found this above my level even though I have some undergrad engineering. I did take linear algebra, but am rusty on differential equations and partial derivatives. I'm taking my own advice and reading the first volume now!

A must read for the Brit Cricket fraternity

The book deserves to be read for more reasons than one. Ganguly is a contrversial figure in the UK, the man who took his jersey off at the mecca of cricket and had the famous showdown with Flintoff. At the same time British cricket esp Boycott have loved him. This book throws light on various aspects of this inscrutable character and helps critics and fans appreciate him better

Read the book, not on a Kindle

I really enjoyed the book. Prior to reading the book, I had only heard the Serial podcast. My only complaint is that I read it on my Kindle. The author, Rabia Chaudry, inserted copies of notes, hearing transcripts, etc. I could not read them on the kindle because the print was too small. It would not enlarge.

I pretty much figured out what the contents were, but it would have been nice to be able to read it (or have a transcript written below).

Fearless, captivating, page-turning, gut-wrenching

Is there a word stronger than love..? I've been following the case since late last year. I was a late bloomer in the serial world. But I listened to almost all episodes of undisclosed as well. When I got this book I didn't expect too much new info. I expected more of the same. But for the first time in my life, I was wrong. Not only did I find a lot of very interesting new information, but I also found a new hero: Rabia. The best way I can describe her is a very well educated, thorough and eloquent bada$$. Her writing style is captivating and I found myself laughing to tears at some points, clenching my pillow with anticipation at others. She creates the scene so well and takes the reader through a time machine to land directly in the moment. She captured Adnan's story so well, I feel most readers, like myself, feel like we've known him for years by the end of this book. Beyond that she did a great job of setting the scene, and explaining the community of ISB. The muslim culture is sorely misrepresented and misunderstood on a large scale. I grew up going to Sunday school at ISB, and while I wasn't too involved in the community I was surrounded by it. This book, Rabia, does a great job of depicting what life was like for the most common Muslim American teens. The same lifestyle that was painted over with a broad and very bigoted brush at this trial. This book is Adnans story, but his story the embodiment of everything that Muslim Americans right now fear. Her fearless and outspoken nature shine brightly through the pages of this work, and we need more outspoken and dedicated individuals like Rabia in our community and world. Can't wait to read her next work!

Overpriced series that never seems to end...

You know what I really hate? Authors that give us under 50 pages of reading material, charge $2.99 for each episode, and drag out the series FOREVER. I believe this series is up to 7 episodes. It doesn't matter how good the story and writing may be, how can you enjoy the "book" when you are feeling ripped off?

Wow! I love this series, or I should say serial because the story is being released in regular installments. None of the books in this serial are standalone reads and each release does contain a cliffhanger (except the ninth and final installment which ties things up nicely) but maybe I'm just a bit weird because I love this concept, especially when the book is part of the Kindle Unlimited program which is how I'm reading this story. These short installments are perfect for a quick naughty break. Now having warned everyone right up front, I'd like to talk about the story itself. Quite frankly, this is my first time reading Deana Farrady's work and I had no idea what to expect. I saw an advertisement offering the first book for free and after reading the blurb, I decided I would try it, read a few pages and if I didn't like it, I'd just stop reading. Well, I didn't stop reading because I couldn't! I was immediately drawn into this story and fortunately there were six more books in the series already available so I binged and read all seven in one sitting. I loved it! I'm a little fickle about reviewing a 'new to me' author so I decided to hold off on leaving a review until I had a better grasp of the story and the author's talent but now after having read the first eight books, I can honestly state that I'm very impressed with Farrady's skill as a writer. Some people are born with a natural innate ability as a storyteller and Farrady seems to be abundantly blessed with this gift. I was also impressed by her language skills. This story is beautifully written with good grammar and spelling, great sentence structure, good punctuation and exceptional vocabulary/word skills. The narrative is written in the third person with alternating his and her points of view. The dialogue is seductive, well executed and flows effortlessly. But it's the magnificent cast of well developed characters that will draw you in and steal your heart. The interaction and sexual chemistry between the male and female protagonists is so darn hot, it sizzles! I know this breakdown of the story may sound pretty boring but it takes all of these elements to craft a great book rather than just a good book. I'm not a professional reviewer but I do know what I like, what I love and what I don't, and I truly love this story.
Hot Vengeance is the first release in The Alpha Billionaire's Revenge and believe me when I say, it is definitely a dark romance as the title states and not for the meek of heart but if you love a steamy, seductive read filled to the brim with danger, drama, blackmail, suspense,revenge, erotic domination and dreamy sex, then you will love this story!
Handsome billionaire Jonas Westerling has everything wealth could offer - money, clothes, real estate, an endless string of women vying for his attention but there's still one thing he wants more life itself. Jonas Westerling wants revenge and he's determined to have it. He's been planning it for 10 long years and he will not be denied. No spoilers from me but I will say this...Handsome and sometimes cruel billionaire intent on revenge-check! Beautiful young woman determined to protect her sister regardless of the cost-check! Danger, drama, lies, blackmail, mystery, suspense and intrigue-check! Heated attraction, fiery passion, arousing domination, steamy sex and dreamy romance-you bet! That and a whole lot more! I can hardly wait to read the next installment!

Enjoyed FAR more than I expected! YAY! BUT THAT ENDING THO

Oh Kendare Blake, you and I have such an unwary relationship. You pull me in with these amazing plots of dead girls and dying gods, and then you make me sad with your writing (which, to be fair, isn't awful), but didn't do justice to your amazing ideas.

Until now.

As soon as I read the synopsis, I squee'd. As soon as I read the author's name, I internally sighed. I was prepared to wait until the price dropped ridiculously low before buying (if buying at all.) Until the first 3 chapters became available. And I read. And read. And read some more. And, despite my internal arguments, bought the day it came out. Kendare's writing style has tightened up nicely. The characters have become more layered (for the most part.) And the world building has vastly improved, save for one or two locations (*coughROLANTHEcough*) that I couldn't just...GET. Some woods, some cliffs, some water. Meh. I found the poisoner's arc to be the most intriguing by far. The characters were delicious. The naturalists weren't too bad themselves, save for that...DUN-DUN-DUN...LOVEEEE TRIAAAAANGGGGLE *lightning/boom/crash/* Out of the 3 sisters, I found the elementalist to be the most distasteful. I don't know if that is by author design, or the fact that I don't enjoy **SEMI-SPOILERISH**

...whiny perfect powerful girls who steal other's girls' men despite knowing that they're other girls' men. Tch. Tacky.

Also, can someone PLEASE TALK TO ME ABOUT THAT ENDING?!?!?!?!?!?! That in itself sealed the deal. That ending may have pushed it into the 4.5 zone, 'cept Amazon's all anti-fractions and whatnot.

Overall, I really enjoyed it far more than I was expecting, and aside from a couple of YA tropes that are almost unavoidable, I found this to be an immersive read (I read the whole thing in 5 hours, YO!) that I'll most definitely re-read and re-read again.

Dark, Different, and Fun!

So many YA books have either one narrator or do the duo-narrator thing, so when Three Dark Crowns promised me three narrators, I was intrigued. As a fan of epic fantasy books, which often rotate through whole swathes of character viewpoints, I was surprised to find myself a little confused at the beginning of this book. But, once I got comfortable with each princess and her setting, I really started enjoying this tale.

At first I was dubious about the three princesses being pitted against each other, but it really added so much intrigue and tension for me as a reader. You get invested in the lives of EACH princess and when you’re reading her story, you want her to succeed! Learning how each main character was dealing with her situation was very interesting for me, and I enjoyed the bits of lore sprinkled throughout the book (in the rituals, the rules, the buildings, the foods, everything!).

There is one thing in this story that royally pissed me off, and I have trouble deciding whether it makes sense or whether it was a plot device. I’m hoping for more elaboration on this front in the next book. Speaking of the next book… I can’t freaking WAIT! The way this one ended left me satisfied in some ways, but also eager to find out where things would go from there!

Overall, this was a really entertaining read. Highly recommended!

Not For Me

This book had an interesting plot line. When I first read the synopsis I thought it seemed like a very unique new idea in fantasy. Sadly, it stinks. The writing is awkward, confusing, disjointed, and boring. I found myself skipping paragraphs just trying to get through sections of the book. I have read an immense amount of books,and a truckload of fantasy novels, and this one doesn't rate very high, period.

ROBERT REIMANN was founding president of the Interaction Design Association (IxDA). He is Principal Interaction Designer at PatientsLikeMe, and former Director of Design R&D at Cooper.

DAVID CRONIN is a Design Director at GE. He was also Director of Interaction Design at Smart Design, and a former Managing Director at Cooper.

CHRISTOPHER NOESSEL is Cooper’s first Design Fellow, and the co-author of Make It So. He teaches and speaks about design all over the world.

I don't want to ding this book on the content, the previous editions were great, but like another reviewer, the book literally cracked in half and pages started falling out the first time I (gently) opened it. Here is hoping that the publisher addresses the issue, or perhaps this is part of a bad run -- but it is pretty amazing that Wiley let these out the door.

Binding is terrible

This book gets five stars for the content. Unfortunately, a sticky note has more glue than the binding of this book. The first time I opend it the pages immediately started detaching from the spine. For a text book style book I found this very disappointing.

Want to know how to make great software products and systems? Buy this book, read it, and share with your team. There's really nothing like it.

This is the fourth version of a 1995 book by Alan Cooper that helped launch the interaction design discipline. Written for practitioners and cited by researchers, each edition of About Face has advanced the field. And this thoroughly updated edition will do the same.

Sure, you can read blogs on the web that have interesting tidbits to say about designing for social, the niceties of interactive data displays, or gesture design for mobile. And you can certainly buy books that offer design lessons and principles. But no other resource has tackled the subject at the methodical depth and breadth that Cooper's team of writers do here.

The material is useful for newbie designers (worth the price just for the consistent and battle-tested vocabulary). What's more, the book provides philosophies, methods, and resources that experienced design managers can use to build happy design teams that programmers and executives love to work with.

The writing is often playful, the design is elegant, and the ideas are incendiary. Enjoy!
