About the Author
Eric Litwinis a guitar-strumming, song-singing, banjo-picking, tale-telling, song-writing, national-award-winning, music-producing, fun, folksy type of guy. He loves to blend song and story together and is inspired by the depth and simplicity of folk songs and folktales. Eric is a popular performer, delighting thousands of children and families every year. He has recorded two award-winning children's music CDs.

He has devoted his paintings to Pete the Cat for fifteen years and has turned his natural love for cats into his life’s work. James published his first adult book, The Misadventures of Pete the Cat, a history of his artwork, in 2006. The pictures are graphic and easy for kids to see

Charming story about a chill cat--I always imagine him as a California hippie--who slowly loses the buttons on his shirt until he's left with just his bellybutton! The pictures are graphic and easy for kids to see, and there is a lot to discuss: numbers, counting, colors, etc. There is a song that the cat repeatedly sings - not sure what the "official" tune is but it is fun to make up your own. I have one song, my husband sings it differently, my mom yet a third way, and so on. It's all good!

Great to read out loud to young children

This book was a hit with my 4 year old. I have also read this book to a group of about 10 kids between the ages of 2 and 6 and it also worked there as well. The book is repetitive, which is great with kids. After a a few pages they will catch on to the pattern and begin singing along or shouting the number of remaining buttons. Tons of fun!
The art is cute, the fonts are fun. I also love that Pete is a gnarly carefree American cat dude who skateboards and surfs.
I got this book before I knew who Pete the Cat was, and I was also unaware that there is apparently an entire line of Pete the Cat products available. I haven't tried any of the other Pete the Cat books or products, just this one.

OUTSTANDING message for kids - and adults too!

Pete progressively loses buttons off his favorite shirt. When the button pops off and rolls away, "does Pete cry? Goodness no! Buttons come and buttons go. He keeps on singing his song." Finally when all the buttons have popped off and rolled away, does Pete cry? Goodness no! He still has his Belly Button! Love love love this book and my Granddaughter loves anything and everything that's Pete related. His messages are consistently upbeat, relateable and relevant. Buy every book in this series!
